Martin Caton moved to Wales in
1970 when he took up employment in agricultural research at, what
was then the Welsh Plant Breeding Station, Aberystwyth (now the
Institute for Grassland and Environmental
Research).
In Aberystwyth he became actively
involved in the Labour Party and Trade Union
movement.
In 1984 he came to live in the
Gower Constituency when he began work as researcher for David
Morris, the Member of the European Parliament. In the years
that followed he served on Mumbles Community Council, Swansea City
Council and the City and County of Swansea.
In the General Election of
1997, he won the Gower seat for Labour and has represented the
constituency in the House of Commons since
then.
Martin lives, with his wife
Bethan, in West Cross, Mumbles in the Gower Constituency.
Soon after his first election he opened a staffed Adive Office in
Gorseinon, which continues to serve the interests of his
constituents. He holds monthly surgeries in Clydach,
Gorseinon, Mumbles and Pontardulais and also special village and
street surgeries throughout Gower. For more information
