News from the campaign trail

Martin with Campaign TeamMartin with Sarah

Martin was delighted with the reception he had on the campaign trail.  On the first weekend after the Prime Minister went to the Palace he said:

"I am very pleased to have had the time to meet again so many people who I have had the chance to get to know or help over the last 13 years.  Sometimes I am reminded of cases taken up years ago which people still recall.  It is great when the political process, much maligned recently, can be made to work to get constituents the help they need.  Today I met for the first time a ninety years young lady who had met every MP for Gower D.R. Grenfell.  I was delighted to keep her record going.

“The issues being raised are a mixture of local, Welsh and UK wide matters.  They range from potholes in the road through our children’s schooling, the quality of the health service to policing, employment and the economy and even international relations.”

We must never take the electorate for granted.  Martin's record of hard work and honest endeavour gives his 30 strong campaign team a good record of service to help put before the people."

Friendly helpers made their way to Gower to help Martin in his campaign to return to Parliament.  Among them were Carwyn Jones, the First Minister, Peter Hain, Wayne David, Val lloyd Assembly Member, MEP Derek Vaughan and other friends from outside Gower joined the local team to  knock on doors and meet voters.

These visitors bolstered the team of local councillors - Mark Child, Des Thomas, Will Evans, Christine Richards, John Miles and David Jones - who were ever-present in their wards and, of course,  Gower's Assembly Member, Edwina Hart.  Martin said, "It is right and proper that elected Labour politicians get out to face the people, hear their stories and points of view, and do what we can to get practical help to them.  That is why I have spent most Saturday' s over the past three years getting out to all parts of Gower just knocking on doors and seeing what people are concerned about."
